Many of our customers at Michael-Angelo’s are avid gardeners. The health benefits of spending time in your garden planting, weeding and enjoying nature are well proven. But have you ever thought about how your garden can benefit your taste buds? We make an effort to reserve room in our gardens for various fragrant, flavourful edibles. These goodies grow with the seasons and keep our meals feeling fresh and bright all summer long.
The Edible Garden
Just sweet, basil is a match made in heaven for acidic tomatoes. For something completely different, try scattering torn basil leaves on strawberry shortcakes.
This herb, earthy and bold, is an excellent addition to grilled meats. Incorporate into marinades for extra deep flavour.
Summer calls for light food and that’s why we tend to favour Asian-inspired recipes. Cilantro is a key ingredient in most Asian cooking, making it worth cultivating in your garden.
Lavender is one of those ingredients that is unlike any other, both in scent and flavour. We like it best in sweets, especially when paired with lemon. Think: lemon-lavender sorbet on a sticky summer evening.
