Part 2 of our Perfect Cheese Board story tackles the serving and presentation side of this party favourite. Read Part 1.
Serve It Up
Cheese is best served at room temperature, so take cheese out of the fridge at least one hour before plating. Be sure not to overcrowd your cheese board so there’s ample room for guests to slice and serve up your indulgent offerings. For a festive soirée, uncork some red or white wine. Our picks: a luscious, fruity dessert wine such as Vidal 2013 VQA, or, for red devotees, the Don Paolo Special Red 2013 VQA, a well-balanced blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Both are available to taste at the Michael-Angelo’s Markham Caffé from Gallucci Winery.
Surface options for serving cheese are endless. A classic wooden cheese board is familiar and easy to clean, a slab of marble looks extra classy, and a rustic piece of slate is unexpected and cool. We also love the idea of using a piece of chalkboard where you can write the names of each cheese directly on the surface so guests know exactly what they’re munching on. Whatever surface you choose, get creative and think outside the box!
