Breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day is a tradition for a reason. What mom doesn’t love sleeping in and lingering under the covers with a cup of hot coffee? This year, we’re whipping up delectable slices of French Toast for mom. Grab our go-to recipe below.
Classic French Toast
6 large eggs
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of ground nutmeg
6 slices (1-inch-thick) white bread
Unsalted butter for the pan
Maple syrup and whipped cream for serving
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Arrange bread in a shallow baking dish. Pour egg mixture over bread slices and soak for 5 minutes. Turn bread over and soak for an additional 5 minutes.
Preheat oven to 250°F. Heat butter in a large frying pan and cook slices over medium heat until golden (2-3 minutes per side). When first batch is finished, transfer to baking pan and keep warm in the oven while you make the second batch.
Serve warm with maple syrup and whipped cream.
