Let’s face it, Halloween is all about the kids. Between costume shopping and handing out candy, us adults rarely have time for a Halloween treat (unless you count the pint sized chocolate bars you sneak in between tick-or-treaters). This year, we thought it would be fun to make an adults-only Halloween sweet. These Bourbon Salted Caramels from Bon Appetit are chewy, salty-sweet and infused with the warmth of bourbon. Make them for yourself but also be sure to hand some out to your friends (the recipe makes 100 caramels, after all). We recommend packaging them up in cellophane bags and trying them each with a seasonal orange ribbon.
Not sold on the salt and sweet thing?
Keep in mind, whether you’re cooking a savoury dish or baking something sweet, salt acts as a magnifying glass on flavour. When you add salt to a dish, the flavour pops. Topping these caramels with flaky sea salt works to enhance both their sweetness and booziness.
