Recently, the Michael-Angelo’s team took a trip to Thedford, Ontario to visit one of our suppliers: Hog-Tied Farm.
Solely run by owner John Van Engelen and his son Mitch, Hog-Tied is a bustling pork farm with over 2000 pigs. John has raised pigs for 37 years and his passion and dedication for the job shows. Hog-Tied pigs receive the very best in care and attention: John even grows his own corn and soy to make a homemade blend of pig feed. As John says, “I love what I do.”
At its heart, Hog-Tied Farm is an environmentally conscious operation. The farm runs according to the Environmental Farm Plan and the Nutrient Management Plan, just to name a few. Clearly, good practices equal good quality! If you ask us, you can taste the difference.
Our visit to Hog-Tied Farm was fun and informative. We loved being outside, touring the property, and meeting the man behind the tasty pork products we sell at Michael- Angelo’s. As we drove away from the farm at the end of the day, our team was left with a strong sense of local connection. John Van Engelen is not just a talented farmer, he’s also our neighbour. It’s nice to know his farm is just a short drive away.
